Posttranscriptional and posttranslational regulations are critical in the control of circadian
clocks. In Neurospora, three key components of the circadian clock, the FRQ, WC-1,
and WC-2 proteins, are phosphorylated, and the phosphorylation events appear to be
critical for their functions in circadian clock and light responses. Recent evidences have suggested
that the molecules mediating the phosphorylation and degradation of the clock proteins
may be the common links among different eukaryotic circadian clocks. Posttranscriptional
regulations are also involved in controlling the expression of FRQ and WC-1. In this review,
the roles of various posttranscriptional and posttranslational regulatory mechanisms in the
Neurospora circadian clock are discussed.
